MasterCraft Fire Alarm Device (Question)

Hello there. I just discovered this forum after needing to replace the batteries in my smoke alarms (and in one case, replacing it entirely because it is faulty even with a new battery).

Upon searching the model number, I came across an old thread on here (50 year old smoke detector?).

I was planning on taking this to the recycling depot since it has a warning label about having radioactive material in it. But there was a comment in the thread linked above about selling it to a collector since it’s rare and quite old.

I didn’t realize there was interest in collecting old fire alarms. I wanted to post here to get more information.

My biggest concern is shipping it due to the “radioactive material” warning on it, so I’m not 100% sure how that will work or if that is even allowed. I’m located in Canada.

It is a MasterCraft, model number 52-0256-A

Thank you!

I’m not 100% familiar with both US & Canadian shipping restrictions, but my guess is that the amount of radioactive material in the average ionization smoke detector is so low that it wouldn’t really be a problem (the average is only 1 microcurie, most of which is stopped by the sensing chamber cover &/or detector cover).

Good point, thank you! I’ll do some further research just in case.
