New LED System Sensor L-Series

Yeah, & with how much Honeywell’s been dropping the ball on their life safety brands in the past few years.

“wasn’t correct”? Care to expand on that?

System Sensor recalled the L-Series speakers and speaker strobes shortly after release because the bases weren’t reliable.

Oh, huh, what do you know…

And the ES series. They had a shit ton of problems when they released in 2018 (in typical Honeywell QC fashion). I’m pretty sure @dewpoint8900 has either a 50X or a 200X from 2018, and the SLC doesn’t work right. I think I also know someone else who has the same issue.

According to this guy who’s a professional fire alarm technician & who’s made a few videos on Fire-Lite-related problems, yeah.

I was helping with a fire drill at an assisted living place that is in the process of upgrading the fire alarm system from a Simplex 4020 to an addressable silent knight system and while I was walking around I looked up and noticed a ceiling mount System Sensor LED Horn strobe. Is this one of the first buildings to get the System sensor LED L-Series?

Yet people still used the original L-Series. Probably the same deal with the LED ones.

I feel like Honeywell is the Boeing of Fire Alarms

What I have seen from a Facebook group that companies switched to Potter from Silent Knight.

The L-Series low-frequency sounders date codes 3084 and 3085 are being recalled because of problems with no or low-volume sound output possible.

Would not be surprised if this happens with the LED L-series.

Seems like System Sensor might have a pattern of recalling their products shortly after launch, since they also recalled the SpectrAlert in the early 2000s due to similar malfunctioning. Have other companies recalled their notification appliances to this extent?

Is there documentation about the SpectrAlert Classic’s recall from early 2000s? I’m putting together the wiki page for the System Sensor SpectrAlert Classic series.

Funnily enough I’ve never heard of either SpectrAlert series ever being recalled: what are the backstories on these incidents?

The SpectrAlert recall notice can be found here. The only information provided about the problem is that these devices “may fail to operate in the event of a fire.”

Good to know there was more to their recall history, I’ll get that added to the wiki.

Huh, well how about that. Weird how I’ve never heard anything about it (unless it’s because it happened back in 2001 & it probably wasn’t a “big” recall either).

I found the source of the leaked images

https://www.securityandfire.honeywell.com/en/-/media//Files/Conference/Future%20of%20Building%20Communications%20AV%20with%20LED%20Strobes

This PDF seems to be for some kind of webinar, I’m not sure wether or not this was public and someone in the community found it or if some notifier employee who is in the community leaked it

Did you notice this?

It looks like the slides were presented to ESD’s, so there is a good chance the slides were leaked by an ESD.

I am not sure why they redesigned the speaker strobes. The wall speaker strobe makes it look like they intend to release a smaller variant in the future, although this looks like it might reduce the speaker intelligibility. I am not sure why the ceiling speaker strobe is oddly arranged. Based on the photo, it seems like the + in the middle of the device might even obstruct the strobe.

Also, based on the 2x4 footprint of the outdoor devices and the “bump” design of the indoor strobes, I suspect that System Sensor might be planning a new single gang L-Series that can mount on a trim plate for other mounting options, similar to the Eluxa and Genesis devices.

Update: After looking closer, it appears that the off-center ceiling speaker strobe was created in the slide editor by placing a strobe image over a prototype speaker strobe. This can be seen by highlighting the elements of the PDF, since the strobe highlights separately from the speaker. The + in the center of this device is probably a dummy strobe used on this prototype before the real strobe was ready, and the strobe image was not placed correctly when assembling the slides. These dummy strobes can also be seen on the slide that compares the product dimensions, where the LED “strobe” is clearly much whiter than the horn strobe LEDs.

Yes I saw that, probably something to do with the new FCP settings.

You can also see that the outdoor remote horn/remote strobe images were modified… almost looks like MS Paint lol

I hope the weird outdoor speaker strobes are a result of MS Paint and not the actual design, but it is hard to tell.
