Odd fire alarms

An old Simplex panel in an apartment building - out of service. There was another cabinet in the hallway but didn’t have a picture of that.

Is that a Simplex 4208?

This was a fun one… Three different fire alarm panels for the same building. The old Pyrotronics was original and covered most of the original building, the black Pyrotronics panel was for “New” devices that would get installed as parts of the building would get new tenant fit-outs. I forget what the little beige panel was for, maybe elevator lobbies and recall?

That little panel could be for elevator lobbies and elevator recall.

Not sure. May be going back there at some point and can get more pictures.

If you go back there, can you tell me if it is a 4208 or not?

The blue panels are conventional System 3 panels that first came out in the 1970s I think. Even though it’s over 40 years old, its still manufactured new today, used widely on the navy’s ships and in nuclear facilities.

The black one is an MXL addressable panel.

I can’t tell what the beige one is, possibly a dialer though.

It could be a panel that recalls the elevator.

Don’t believe it’s a dialer. Think the dialer is above the black panel (red can).

Actually, not for the elevator. Looked in my notes and the blue panel does the elevator lobbies. Thinking now it was either all the sprinkler devices (flows & tampers) or part of a pre-action sprinkler system that we didn’t fool with.

What is the model number of the blue panel?

Another “odd” device! Unless this is mounted in a building frequented by Lionel Richie, someone mounted these upside down and instead of fixing the mistake, just had some labels made up! Look at the little man running from the flames…

“System 3” as far as I know.

That alarm is an upside down EST Genesis horn/strobe.

That big red simplex panel is a 4207 and the beige one tied to the system 3 is a Gamewell Zans-400

I just found out that the Pyrotronics System 3 DIDNT come out in the 1970s. According to their website, it was introduced in the late 1960s.

What part of the late '60’s did it come out in?

I dont really know the answer to that, but I’m guessing 1968-1969. its on siemens website

Yeah, those Pyrotronics don’t seem to want to die! I seem to come across about one every couple of months. I’ve got some more pictures of systems I’ll have to dig up. One in particular was an old panel from I believe was the 40’s that had three 120v A-style light bulbs on top. One for power, one for trouble, and one for alarm. They were still using it and still worked! This week I’m dealing with a bunch of Protectowire panels that have seen better days. Maybe I’ll snap a few pictures.

woah, the 1940s had alarm panels?

System3

cp-30’s or 35’s probably.
