Here’s a picture of an old Ademco 612 tape dialer that was still in service at the time. I’ve got a video if it calling out if anyone is interested in posting that up on here. I don’t have the patience to figure that out!
Pretty much. It dials out and starts playing a message whether someone answers or not. This one has an endless loop tape so when the message is done, the tape picks up where it left off. No need to rewind the tape. It is very rare that they are used anymore because dispatchers like to talk to a live person. This one called the local fireboard directly.

There was another device (Ademco 618) that looks like the dialer that is the programmer (recorder). It has the same tape drive mechanism, the recording circuitry, microphone, and a pulse type telephone dial.
Here’s a photo from an EBay listing that I found that has a very different version of the Notifier BNG-1R. Possibly made between the older original version and the modern “BG-8” style?
