okay i took pictures of my 1839acwi
Thanks Helen75. yep the Sears Early One got sold…to me. YIPPEE!!! I decided to get this one over the Pyr Alarm although I might try again if later if it’s still available. One alarm at a time. LOL! But the Sears Early One is one from my childhood. My parents had them in both the houses I grew up in. That thing gave me nightmares. Interesting how today Im buying one brand new in the box off ebay. I love the sound of the SA76RS. I will post pics or try to and hopefully a video when i get it!!! . This will make alarm number 5 in my collection.
Neat detector Helen75. when did you get that one? What year is it from. looks like late 1970s to me since it’s got a brass squealer. Since its 120VAC im guessing its a vibrating buzzer. Those are LOUD!!! Cool find!
Sorry, I tried to reply last night but my account got locked up.
Congrats on your new Sears smoke alarm! I hope you make a video on it.
Also, those pictures are of the 1985 Brk 1839acwi I got from a friend’s house. Its one of the last Brk models to use a mechanical 60hz buzzer. Also, the term “squealer horn” is a term used to describe a DC horn. These are the horns in your First Alert sa76rs and your new Sears (fyrnetics) smoke alarm. I dont know if there are any nicknames for an AC horn, so I will just call them AC horns.

Sorry I keep getting squealer horn and mechanical buzzer mixed up. I know I shouldn’t. Im also one of the “old timers” in the forum. LOL! Okay not really old but at nearly 47 I think I am one of the older if not oldest members here and the only female but I could be wrong. Oh okay I think Firex used mechanical buzzers up until 1989. My Nortron TR88 has the mechanical buzzer and like I said don’t be fooled as that thing is LOUD!!! Much more powerful than the squealer horn in my SA76RS and future Sears Early One (fyrenetics) Thanks I am getting excited about the Sears. I should be getting it early next week so by this time next week it should be in my hands and again Im hoping for a video and definitely pics. Im a bit nervous (speaking) when I make videos.
ya this thing is super loud
also, here are a couple of interesting vintage GAS ALARMS

Would the gas be just gas itself or could it also pick up other stuff like carbon monoxide?
They just detect flammable gases. They can also detect fire because when wood burns it releases flammable gases (these gases ignite and produce the flame).

Look what I found on reddit!

That looks awfully similar to the 1970s NuTone/Scovill alarms with the covers twisted off. Also, I subbed to your channel a while ago. You have some cool things on there!

It’s a rebranded ESL, same model that NuTone-Scovill rebranded for their S-185 (that I have)
Look what I got, Smoke Alert/BRK SA769AC. Thanks Verymanywelps for this detector!

Nice detector RSSAlarms. I will get a couple similar ones when I move into my new house.
They are brk 769ACII alarms. They have the rectangle-ish base and the tombstone shape sensor. Otherwise identical.
Nice detector Helen75. thanks for sharing. Hope you can get it hooked up. Sorry If I sound excited tonight…on not only it being Friday but I made my purchase on Ebay…first time and successfully by the way and got the Sears Early One smoke detector. It should be arriving anytime between March 10 and April 6th. Hopefully sooner than later but I am one happy gal right about now to FINALLY have this detector soon back in my possession. This time with the original box and instructions. Pics and videos will definitely be following!!! 8) Oh happy day!!!
I meant to say RSSAlarms, that is the one I was too late in trying to get that is okay again I have a Sears Early One coming to me soon. I can’t wait.
Love those SA769AC’s. One of the ones I’m after. I had a lead on one with a First Alert cover (earlier one with the small center without the lone slot) that someone had messaged me on facebook about but I have yet to hear back from them.
