Rare Smoke Detectors

I was born a few decades after 1975. 75 is just a cool number.

Also, you can just upload images with the attachment feature. If you want a host website, use Flickr.

Tried the attachment feature several times and it won’t work. I previously used it before. Oh okay I will try Flickr tomorrow. This gal is too tired tonight, LOL! Hope it works. The only thing the Early One didn’t come with was a mounting bracket. Im pretty sure my parents Early One did back in the day but I could have been wrong. The box and instructions are still in good shape and the detector itself is white not a yellowed colour.

One thing that wasn’t in good shape was the 9 Volt battery. It still got sent inside a ziploc bag with everything else. Very corroded! I included it in one of the pics. Also featured is a small red coloured letter from the Office Of The California State Fire Marshal. It is dated July 2, 1976 (original date 6/15/76). Interesting extra piece of info. I included it in the pic too.

Oh okay I thought at first your name really was Helen. I agree 75 is a cool number. Mine name on here is a combination of my childhood nickname (Miss J) and of course the year I was born (1973) it has stuck with me ever since!!

Hope this works but here is a video I made today of the Sears Early One!!

The video actually was a really nice video! Great job on recording it!

Oh wow glad it worked. Im still hopefully going to try to get the pics up but as long as the video worked I am happy. What you said made me feel 100% better because I was very nervous making it as you can tell by how I talk. Hoping tomorrow part 2 with the instruction manual and the box (something I never got to see as a kid, plus something else that is cool). Again that will be shown in part 2. Oh yeah another question did the First Alert SA76RC originally have a squealer horn? if it was introduced in 1979 my guess is it did but if I am wrong let me know. Thanks. 8)

Still having a hard time posting pics but seem to have luck posting videos so here is the second part of my Sears Early One Video. There might be a third one later this week. Have a great day and let me know what you think of the video if you want. 8)

The sa76rc was the 2nd generaton of the First Alert alarms. It was the first normal alarm with a piezo that First Alert made.

Also, I just saw the video of the sears early one. Cool!

Thanks glad you liked the video Helen75, There is a second one I just put up this afternoon. A bit longer and I wasn’t as nervous although my camera almost turned off half way through. Oh okay I didn’t think the RC ever had a squealer horn. I don’t ever believe there was an RS with a piezo horn. That would be very rare if there was.

The sa76rs never had a piezo, although there were some weird transitional models in the late 70s with combinations of parts from the RS, RC, and others.

That would have been a rare RS. I saw a video a few years ago. Someone had an RS but the back was labeled First Alert instead of Smoke Alert as the RS’s were labeled. mine has the Smoke Alert label. They never set it off or opened it up to show the insides so I wonder what it sounded like or what the sensor looked like. Have you seen or heard any of the transitional models?

That Sears is awesome, I love those old Fyrnetics ones.
I got two today, a First Alert SA76RC and a First Alert SA80FD.
The 76RC is a later one with the dome test button and the updated piezo horn with the three small holes. Sounds in the classic BRK quick pulse.
The SA80FD is a weird one. Weird in design and weird in that it kinda messes up the First Alert timeline. It’s a transitional model between the SA80FC and the SA67D. The SA80FC was an “industrialized” design of the SA76RC, and when switching from the 79R style to the 83R they went with this design for a very short while. My theory is it’s a very early prototypical design, but who knows. Strangely, the box says SA81D and the unit itself says 83R. They DID make a model SA81D that was identical but had a white button. Also the box depicts a unit with the 2nd gen small cover but the unit in real life has the 1st gen large cover (I don’t believe 2nd gen versions of this even existed). Standard 83R PCB with the black plastic sensor, sounds in 4/6.

Not all sa76rs alarms were Smoke Alert labeled. This must have been a later one from about 1978-ish.

I saw the video of your sa80fd. Very cool, indeed! That was made about 1986. To me, it has an unusually high pitched horn.

Also, glad you finally got an RC! It has the later style horn like mine, so about 1983. Believe it or not, I have 2 sa76rc alarms (made in 1979 and 1983), and soon I will probably get a 3rd from a friends house! (although it might be an rs)

If you get an RS you should make a video of it. Will that be your first detector with a brass squealer? Helen75? Love the sound of it and my newly acquired Sears Early one. The 1970’s and 80’s had alot of interesting smoke detectors.

If it turns out to be an RS, it will me my first one with a squealer horn. I will make a video on it.

I figured that while I was at it, I would take pictures of my current alarms.

Looks like you have a great collection of alarms on you! I hope that you can eventually get more soon!
