Rare Smoke Detectors

Hi guys well as you know I won an Amway Smoke detector model number E-8315 from 1977. This is the Canadian model. Now this detector has had issues with me setting it off although the LED light flashes indicating there is power going to the unit and it has emitted several chirps although not yet a full beep. That is okay it will happen within time, I still love the look of it and it is the biggest detector alarm and number 6 in my collection so far. Tonight I put on this beauty and even though used. Im hoping for it. Someone backed out of it so currently I could get this but I have to wait 7 days to find out. Now if I win this is my birthday gift to myself. My birthday is on August 7th and I turn 47 on August 7th. Historically 7 is a lucky number so again there might be hope left. Wish me luck. If so Happy Birthday to me.

This is my second choice if the first falls through. I tried for one of these a month and a half ago. I lost out because of a mistake I made (I think) oh well I will try again.

good luck on that FB-1A you got competition with Nlind by the way I have an FB-1A

Thanks it is used and so far I am the highest bidder and from I have seen from the pictures it is a Canadian detector , Not sure of the year of it but I would have to say 1977-78. It doesn’t look that big in the pics but I could be wrong. The battery holder looks exactly like that of my SA76RS. If I get it there will be a video made. Looks like a cool alarm. I have seen the models with the battery indicating red flag and those are bigger. My brother in law’s grandfather had one in his old house. Keeping my fingers crossed.

the version with the silencer is the FB-1 and actually the inside of that FB-1A on ebay is different to mine

Oh okay you mean the one I bid on? Still I am the highest bidder but I have 6 more days to go? So which one would you say is more rare? Did you win yours on Ebay?

American FB-1A (mine) V.S Canadian (eBay listing)

Oh wow interesting. The sensor is totally different. Wonder if they sound different too. Does yours make a higher pitched squeal? Would you know if the sensor was changes at some point or if the American and Canadian ones just had different sensors. So far I am still the highest bidder!!! If so by 6 pm Friday Happy Birthday to me. 8)

The PCB boards looks different too. I wonder why there is a picture of an American penny in the ebay listing as well. They were in some other listing pics as well.

I have a video about it right here if you wanna hear it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT66KlVL6xY&t=3s

I’m gonna save up for one of those Norelcos. If I miss them though, I have backup plans.
In other news, I unfortunately had to cancel the 1839ACI because it never really shipped. The seller marked it as shipped, however the shipping label was never created and it was never in transit.

Neat it sounds very much like the SA76RS. It is a bit higher pitched with the cover off than cover on and like the RS the cover is comes right off. I have only ever known these to have squealer horns. Interesting ones from back in the day. I like the box that came with yours. It kind of looks like the box at came with my Nortron TR88. It looks to be in very goof shape. Since the one I bid on is used I don’t think I will be getting the box with it but if I do get it I will be making a video and comparing sounds!!!

Just bought one of the Norelco Smokeys. Be expecting a vid on my channel!

look what i purchased

Nice! Love how it uses an incandescent bulb instead of an LED like the alarms of today.

Well, my Norelco Smokey came today, and it is a bit more obscure than I thought. I was expecting it to have the normal Cerberus PCB that most of them have, but instead, it uses this really unique PCB which I’ve never seen before. It uses a DeltaLarm squealer, unlike the Kobishi CLB-27 that the Cerberus ones use, and it uses a coffin-like ionization chamber similar the one the BRK 77R uses.

Well guys it looks like happy birthday to me!!! I won the Guardion Pyr Alarm FB-1A. I might get it as early as mid next week as it is only coming from Mississauga an hour drive from me. My 7th detector/alarm in my growing collection. The siren/horn was tested on it and it works. I can’t wait!!!

So a couple months back I ran across this website and I found a HECK load of rare alarms on there. I have over 100 pictures from the site so I figured that I’d show you some of the top highlights, the most unique and obscure detectors I found where there are little to none known to exist. You guys will probably find some of these quite interesting.

Not sure how many of you knew this, but Sunbeam actually used to relabel Dicon models back in the day in Canada. They may have done it in the states too, but I don’t think so. They were known as Sunbeam’s “Smoke Sensor” line of detectors. Here is an Oster they relabeled, which as you know is Dicon 200 in it’s original form:

Sunbeam did also relabel some of Dicon’s newer models as well, such as the SA-4. Here are two of them in their boxes:

The next one is a very unique concept. Only one is known to exist at the moment, and it is owned by Fire Alarm Fan (on here) aka. NLind on YouTube. He uploaded a video of it to his channel waaay back in ‘07 or ‘08. It is the Teledyne WaterPik D-2 “SonicSiren”, the EXTREMELY rare successor to the D-1. It’s called the SonicSiren for a reason, it uses a pitch-variating, high-decibel, easy-to-hear siren, and was specifically designed for the hearing impaired. https://cdn.thefirepanel.com/legacy/5721_8fdf85ddeec54b398243108121521a22.jpeg

Had to make the rest in a separate post because it’s only allowing me to add 3 images at a time…

Now another one that uses a similar concept to the SonicSiren and is probably one of the most obscure Jameson Code One models, the CD-35 “MegaHorn”. Like I said similar concept, it uses a sounder that highly exceeds the decibel rating of an average smoke alarm, and was specifically designed for the hearing impaired. None are known to exist at the moment, but I would have to assume that it probably also uses a pitch-variating siren that along with the extra loud horn is VERY easy to hear.

Here’s another one in it’s box to the left of a CD-14. The horn output hole has an interesting design in my opinion. I’d also consider the CD-14 to be pretty rare itself being that it has a silencer:

This last one is definitely one of the most, or maybe even THE most obscure Honeywell model known to exist, the CD400A. All it basically is is a CD200A with an escape light. Definitely would be a gem for any collector.
