Nice! I wonder if that’s either a predecessor or a successor to the 1800 & 2800 serieses (the only supposed difference between the two is that the 1800-series is ionization while the 2800-series is photoelectric. They’re also both head-wired as opposed to the 1851 which is base-wired, which might mean that the 1851 is part of the successor series).
The 1851 would match the same numbering scheme as well with the 18- detector being ionization.
Oh, yeah: might be a later model in the 1800-series then (wonder if there’s also a 2800-series photoelectric counterpart too).
There is also a Honeywell version of the BRK 1851. Part number 14506325-001 for the ionization and 14506325-002 for the photoelectric. I have several of each used and possibly some NOS too. A site I work at has these detectors still in service.
Hello, I just pulled this entronic Z-1000 fire alarm off of my wall, I think it dates back to the 70’s if anyone wants it they can have it if they pay for shipping!

Good idea in doing so given smoke detectors are supposed to be replaced every 10 years, & that one is definitely way past its replacement date! (as like you guessed I believe it was indeed made sometime in the 1970s) I’m also glad that you decided to ask around to see if anyone wanted it instead of just throwing it away like most people probably would: it’s efforts like yours that help ensure otherwise irreplacable pieces of life safety history like that smoke detector are preserved, thanks!

Found this one in my photos from vacation last year:
Context: This is the Bloomingdale’s at the Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, which has a vintage 1980s Simplex system with mainly mechanical horns and 4251-20 pulls. I found this detector up on the 3rd floor near the escalators when I was visiting there. It literally looks like a 2400, but with a different plastic design! (The other detectors were Simplex-rebranded System Sensor 1400s.)
Looks extremely similar to this:
I’m thinking it is a rebranded System Sensor detector, but a rarer one (maybe an earlier 2400 or something). It also looks to be rebranded by BRK in the posts, so maybe they just copied System Sensor’s design. Then again, maybe System Sensor was using BRK products all along. A lot of weird stuff was going on with the brands back then.
At that point BRK owned system sensor, it wasn’t until the 2400 and 1400 that system sensor was acquired by Honeywell. Simplex was also at the time rebranding tons of different detectors from many different manufacturers.
