lol, I would gladly trade!
This is very unusual for where I live, but right now it’s raining and there was just some lightning/thunder! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this happen in February!
Well, we never lost power but it was very windy, and with that said, a lot of places did lose power, but luckily the numbers of who did are small. Trees have been uprooted and even entire roofs fell off houses! Luckily no one got hurt.
Next up, the storm for Monday…
There is a possible severe weather outbreak.

DAY 4-8 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0347 AM CST SUN FEB 20 2011
VALID 231200Z - 281200Z
…DISCUSSION…
AN ACTIVE PATTERN WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE PERIOD WITH THE POTENTIAL
FOR A SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK ON THU/D5.
ON WED/D4…MODEL CONSENSUS HAS A BROAD BELT OF SWLY FLOW ALOFT FROM
NRN MEXICO ACROSS THE CNTRL AND ERN U.S…AHEAD OF AN UPPER TROUGH
AXIS THAT IS FORECAST TO BE IN THE VICINITY OF THE BAJA CA/SRN CA
COAST WED MORNING. WELL AHEAD OF THIS FEATURE…LOW LEVEL MOISTURE
WILL BEGIN TO STREAM NWD OFF THE GULF OF MEXICO AS A LARGE SURFACE
HIGH OVER THE ERN STATES GRADUALLY SHIFTS OFFSHORE.
BY THU MORNING…A SURFACE LOW IS FORECAST TO BE SOMEWHERE ACROSS
NWRN TX OR CNTRL OK WITH BOUNDARY LAYER DEWPOINTS AS HIGH AS 60F UP
TO THE LOW CENTER…AND UP TO A WARM FRONT THAT WILL EXTEND EWD
ACROSS NRN OK/AR OR PERHAPS SRN MO. A SURFACE LOW AND POTENT UPPER
LEVEL JET STREAK WILL THEN CONTINUE EWD ACROSS THE LOWER MS AND INTO
THE TN/OH VALLEYS BY 00Z.
UPPER LEVEL COOLING AND A PLUME OF STEEP DEEP LAYER LAPSE RATES WILL
OVERSPREAD THE WARM SECTOR…CREATING A VERY UNSTABLE SITUATION.
ALTHOUGH THE EXACT GEOMETRY OF THE TROUGH MAY NOT BE WELL HANDLED
THIS FAR IN ADVANCE…THE CURRENT MODEL DEPICTION WOULD INDICATE THE
POTENTIAL FOR NUMEROUS SUPERCELLS ALONG THE DRYLINE/COLD
FRONT…RATHER THAN A MORE LINEAR STORM MODE. IN THIS SCENARIO…A
SUBSTANTIAL TORNADO THREAT COULD MATERIALIZE BY AFTERNOON AND
EVENING.
BY FRI/D6…A SEVERE THREAT OF SOME FORM MAY REMAIN ALONG THE COLD
FRONT…AS IT APPROACHES THE ERN SEABOARD…BUT TIMING OF THE FRONT
AND PREDICTABILITY BECOME TOO LOW FOR ANY ADDITIONAL SEVERE AREAS.

Boy, did we get more than we bargained for…
Just over 6 inches of snow fell in Livonia overnight, and it has caused a lot of mayhem along our roads. We even had a Winter Storm Warning that was originally supposed to expire around this time, although it was canceled early. The snow is predicted to continue (50% chance) today, but on a lighter scale than what we saw yesterday. We should be snow-free from Tuesday into Wednesday, before returning to rain and snow mixtures Thursday into Friday.
I’d better get the snow shovel out as well; temperatures are predicted to get as low a 7 degrees Tuesday night, and when you factor in the wind chill…
Just an FYI: wind chill only affects humans and animals. It has absolutely no effect on non-living objects like cars or snow.
Only about 2 or 3 inches of snow through last night. It’s not much, but it’s a real emotional set back from all the melting we had going on last week.
Pittsburgh finally got snow this afternoon. We’re probably going to get 5-8 inches. After having weather in the 50s and 60s, it’s a bit of a shock.
We got over a foot of snow today, and it’s STILL coling down! Lots of people misjudged this storm, as many initially had forecasted 3"-6", then we were upped to 5"-9" but even that wasn’t enough!
Hahaha!
Only about 2 inches, but it rained for most of the day before changing to a little snow at night. This should all be melted by the end of the weekend.
Our final total: 14"! That’s the most so far this season! More snow is expected tomorrow night through Sunday and that should dump a few more inches on us. A big rain maker on Monday that could cause some flooding problems, another system coming through on Wednesday, and the extended shows another storm for next Friday night into next Saturday!
Damn, you guys are screwed! At least over here its just rain. Its not good for flooding issues, but at least it doesn’t pile up or have to be removed!
As of this writing for March 5th, 2011, we are currently experiencing precipitation in Livonia that is melting away all the snow. It could soon be causing flood conditions in some spots, so a flood warning is now in effect for Wayne County through this evening. All of this rain could turn into snow along and east of I-75 by this evening, as predicted by the NWS.
We could be in some trouble. The NAM is up to 4" of liquid precipitation and the GFS isn’t forecasting that much less. This could be a disaster if it were all rain, but what’s going to happen is it’ll start as rain (heavy at times) and then transition over to ice and snow. The snow will stay just to the north of my area, but we’re looking at 1"-2" of rain and possible some heavy ice accumulation (we’re in the heart of the heaviest zone)! We’ll know more tomorrow, but I don’t like the way this is looking. Plus, there’s another storm for next weekend that could be just like this one…
The ice was originally predicted to be over this area, but it looks like it will be all rain. Hang in there Dan! Those ice storms are a real pain, hopefully it won’t be too bad for you.
It is beautiful outside right now, rainy, but very warm. It stayed well above freezing last night so as you can imagine, our snow pack has melted considerably in the last few days. We can actually see big areas of grass!
It is going to rain and even strong thunderstorms soon on Wednesday in Bloomington, IN.
Well, we only ended up getting .2" of rain (the “valley effect” spared us a lot of the precip, other areas are flooded), but we are now forecasted to get 4"-8" of snow in addition of up to .25" of ice. This winter’s never going to end…
No snow for us…its almost midnight and its still about 45 degrees. The fog is extremely thick. I can barely see my neighbors’ houses.
We got real lucky. We got roughly .5" of ice and yet our power didn’t go out. It did for a lot of other people though, including the hill just behind my house. I have no idea how much snow we got because the ice made it too difficult to measure, not to mention shovel. We cleared off the cars, removed what snow we could and are now just waiting for it all to melt away. Flash freeze tonight as temps are expected to go down to the single-digits but we warm it back up for tomorrow and even more the next day before (dum dum dummmm…) another storm rolls through…
We’ve been really lucky over here. Some places are dealing with flooding, but my property and even town are not suffering a whole lot. Most of the snow is almost gone with the exception of shady areas and piles. I’m guessing that most of it will be gone by the weekend.
