We got a PANT LOAD of snow from this first storm. The kicker is that its the “baby” storm while the bigger one is tomorrow. I tried driving to go get my younger sister today and ended up getting the car stuck at the end of the driveway.
We only go 3.5", and what’s more, the latest data suggests the storm system won’t be as strong and as a result, the snow totals have been toned down a bit. We’re still looking at an additional foot though.
Pittsburgh has still miraculously avoided any heavy snow. We were supposed to get a couple inches and freezing rain, but all it has done is rain a little bit. My friends who go to school in New England all have a snow day.
Well, one station is anticipating a lot of upper air mixing in the area, allowing for more in the way of sleet and freezing rain, thus reducing the snow totals. The other stations are still forecasting an additional foot of snow. Time will tell…
I measured 8" of snow for today’s total. Tomorrow is sort of a mystery at this point, but we are anticipating about 15" of additional snow WITH a period of freezing rain.
The blizzard has arrived in Michigan; already a Snow Day has been declared for our school district, and the winds are even blowing snow around and around like a whirlwind. Better get those snow shovels and snow blower ready for tomorrow’s recovery, even though we will have to go up against wind gusts and snow STILL falling, although on a lighter pace…
My school is having its 4th snow day this year tomorrow! Typically, it’s extremely rare to even have more than 1 or 2. This shows how much snow we have gotten this year. MA got 4-8 in. today and is expecting 7-12 tomorrow. Also, there is supposed to be sleet and freezing rain, which is gonna make it an even bigger mess.
Boy, has most of SE Michigan lucked out big time… :o
As it turns out, there was some freezing rain south of this system, and it reduced the moisture in the air, causing a reduction in snowfall totals for our area. The Blizzard Warning has now been downgraded to a Winter Storm Warning until noon for portions of SE Michigan, with wind gusts to around 25mph and sub-zero temperatures. Almost all of the snow has moved out of the area as well.
Talk about an ironic situation there…
I have an update; the snowy situation is getting better, because the Winter Storm Warning has been canceled and replaced with a Winter Weather Advisory!
Southeast Wisconsin had about 19 inches total since Monday night, but with the 60-mph winds, it’s hard to tell. We even had some thundersnow last night. It cleared up in Milwaukee by 9 or so, and it took us about 2 1/2 hours to snowblow and shovel.
Last night (well, this morning at 12:40) they issued a Civil Danger Warning… Never saw that one on the weather radio before, and it’s one that can’t be silenced, so our whole family woke up. The message basically said that taveling is impossible, and if you’re dumb enough to try, and then consequently get stuck, emergency vehicles may not be able to get to you.
Then they re-issued it at 1:30, which woke us up a second time… Fun night ![]()
We dodged a HUGE bullet. We only got 5" last night, bringing our two-day total to only 9"! FAR away from the 20" or so predicted. We’re in a lull right now, but some snow currently making its way across PA will be making its way over here in a few hours. Not much expected, but certainly more snow to add to the totals…
I only got about 4" today, so that’s a total of 12" for both days. B.F.D.! We got more snow in one day back on Jan. 12th. I’m really getting tired of this shoveling, I may go insane pretty soon!
Still cleaning up from the snow, although our school district has reopened for classes today. Wind chill factors are somewhere below zero as I write, while the winds themselves could gust to 20mph today as we reach a high of around 20 degrees. The sun will be shining its rays down on us, to, before we start getting more snow later into the weekend and next week.
It was very nice today. We managed to reach 50, needless to say there was a lot of melting going on.
We hit 52 today. We’re on a rollercoaster as far as temps go this week. Today was 52, tomorrow we’ll barely hit 20, then we’ll warm up torards 52 again on Friday, and then it’s back into the 20s. It’s REALLY windy right now due to the tight pressure gradient, not to mention the sharp difference in temps.
I’ll be sad to see the warmth go, but at least we’re getting rid of some of the snow ahead of time, so that way there won’t be a big flood threat once all of it does melt later this spring. Plus, there’s no snow storms in the near future. I guess Phil was right afterall…
Our area is seeing a wonderful warm-up this week, with the temperature Thursday and Friday being predicted to be up to 51 degrees! 8) But, it does not come without some showers Wednesday night into Friday…
Got up to 60 degrees today. We had some strong thunderstorms roll through tonight. Even some hail mixed in there. Very unusual for February.
We had some hail during one of the last storms, although we didn’t get any at my house. It’s windy right now and the temp’s are falling. We’re under a high wind warning, and some power outages are being expected.
After this, we’re expecting (dum dum dummmm) another snow storm. It could amount to a moderate accumulation, which would be about another 4"-8" plus some ice. But at least that’ll be short lived as temps after that will be above freezing.
My main concern is through tomorrow…
Well, the warm weather was good while it lasted, but there is now a good chance of a snow/freezing rain mixture possible for a majority of the day tomorrow, with around 1-3" of snow predicted before it changes to freezing rain…
The good news through all of this, is by next week, sunny and slightly warmer conditions are predicted, so that will be something to look forward to…
Well, as steriotypical texas is, its hot here. Got upto 83 yesterday and is currently going to be 78 and up for the whole week. Uggggggg…
