What alarm do you have at work/school

Just not a fan. They look like they’re bloated or something.

Don’t like the est siga series smokes for the same reason, giant ugly detector.

It also took Simplex about 20 years to figure out that small signals are the way to go… lol

That’s why I feed my Truealert TUMS. XD

I agree. TrueAlerts are perhaps the ugliest signals in my opinion, tied with the Specteralert Advance. The Exceder LEDs and Commander 3s are better.
For some reason I don’t like Mega Drive signals.

I better post the link for the people who don’t get it.

I actually participated in sort of a “comment debate” over how Nintendo systems were more revolutionary than Sega systems on that video. The guy I was debating basically called me a kid for liking Nintendo, then like two other folks called him out on it, saying that I had presented a fair argument and that he was just stooping down to an immature level.

My church has a CP MXL-IQ with a VoiceCom VECP, addressable CP pulls, CP detectors, and Wheelock E-70-MCW-FWs. I wonder if it’s the odd CP “sex change” message where it begins the message as a male then switches to female mid-message.
By the way, what’s the difference between the MXL-IQ and the stock MXL?

The IQ isn’t networkable like the standard MXL is. You also can’t add any of the voice cards the MXL has to an IQ. Other than that, they use most of the same parts and pieces. The IQ is just limited because it was meant for small applications.

It’s kind of odd that you can attach an IQ to an MXL network though.

So on Friday my school’s symphony orchestra visited the middle schools that fed to our high school, so I finally got to see the alarms in those schools for the last time.

The middle school I had in sixth grade that had 9838s on 4903-9101 plates had their system completely gutted and replaced with an EST3… That meant that all the old electromechanical horns and strobe plates got replaced with ceiling-mount Mega Drives, with some wall-mount Mega Drives to satisfy code. Every single pull in the building was replaced with SIGA-278’s, every smoke was replaced with SIGA smoke/CO detectors (which look uglier than SIGA-PSs in my opinion), they added an annunciator in the hallway, and the EST panel I saw in the main office was replaced with another annunciator. I have no idea where the EST-3 is. It’s probably in an electrical room somewhere.

The middle school I went to in seventh and eighth grade stayed the same, but I did notice that all the Velociti smokes had thermistors on them, so they were combo smoke/heats. Interestingly enough, every device took forever to poll… I was looking at a pull station for a good thirty seconds and it only polled once.

Are you talking about SIGA 2’s? Those look quite nice in my opinion.

Is that what they’re called? Yeah, they look alright, but they’re not as clean-looking as System Sensor’s addressable detectors. They remind me of FalseAlarms.

Here are the alarms at my school. Excuse me if the image is too big. I took these with my iPod.

I split your post out of this topic since it is not relevant and moved it to Fire Alarm Help.

I just got a look at my school’s panel yesterday. We have a Siemens MXL-IQ with RCC-2 annunciator. The NA’s are UMMT’s (Code 3) and the pulls are Siemens MS-5’s

First post in a while, but anyway, my university is in the process of building new dormitories and phase one just opened last August; Unfortunately when the temperatures started dropping the gas heaters, apparently in one of the fire places, started leaking carbon monoxide, which happened on multiple occasions last September. The one I remember well was on October 31st around 1:00AM. Anyway, There was another leak today, from a hot water heater that sent CO everywhere. BTW I lived in an older dorm last semester, which will be torn down in May and now I am off campus.

My work had a small F.A. upgrade again. For about the longest time, the whole back of our restaurant only had one fire bell, which was located in the staff room and could barley be heard in the kitchen. The only fire bell (Mirtone 6" bell) in the back was actually hanging off the wall (one screw to the bell came loose). They replaced it Thursday with a new Potter 6" Bell, and on Monday they reinstalled the Mirtone bell in the kitchen.
