This is a Big YMCA which was built in 2019 in favor of an old office building that got demolished in 2018 and was built in 1960. There wasn’t a YMCA in this town at the time considering this town is really big. So to have this big YMCA makes it better. The FACP setting on the TrueAlert ES Horn Strobes has been disabled. The reason for that is because the installers want to brighten or lower the candela accordingly throughout the different rooms and spaces. Most of the Horn Strobes are set to 75CD. The remote strobes in the single person restrooms and small classrooms are set to 15CD. The remote strobes in the more than one person restrooms are set to 30CD. The Horn Strobes in the weight rooms are set at 110CD. In Gymnasiums the candela is 185CD. In locker rooms, all alarms are set at 30CD and 75CD respectively. In the classrooms the Horn Strobes are set on 75CD also, with single person restrooms set on 15CD. There’s even some ceiling mounted devices in a few spots in the weight room and gymnasium, but nowhere else. There’s also a gymnastics room in the Y as well. Those alarms are all set at 135CD. There’s TrueAlert ES Horn Strobes in Smaller Hallways set on 15CD or 30CD. The panel is a Simplex 4010ES, Pulls are Simplex 4099-9006s and Smokes are 4098-9754s.

Stop and Shop, LaGrangeville, NY:
This Stop and Shop opened in 2000, replacing an old Hannaford supermarket that closed in 1999 due to Hannaford opening a new store in LaGrangeville.

Quick Facts:

  • Built in 2000; renovated in 2009
  • There is a 2-story parking garage below the Stop and Shop
  • Square Footage (including back rooms:) 18,000 square feet

Panel:
The panel here is a Simplex 4005, which is still original to the store, with a Simplex 4603-9101 annunciator located at the main entrance with a Radionics security keypad. The panel is located behind the Customer Service desk of the store.

However, the parking garage has a FCI 7100 with an LCD-7100 annunciator located near the garage entrance.

Pulls:
The pulls are quite varied!

  • Simplex 2099-9754 (the earlier variant:) Located in most areas
    image
(Credit to jjinc24 for the photo)
  • Edwards 270-SPO (located near front of store; second floor offices; back rooms)
  • FCI MS-2 (located near the freezer aisle- the last aisle and the dairy section)
  • Simplex 2099-9144 (loading dock pull stations- installed in 2013 to replace dead 9754s)
  • Fire-Lite BG-12 LX (parking garage addressable pull stations)

N/As:
Again, the N/As are varied among the areas of the store!

  • Simplex 4903-9418 (QuickAlert 75CD horn/strobe; located in the store and 2nd floor offices)
  • Simplex 4903-9146 (Standard 4903 electronic horn/strobe; located behind Customer Service, bakery, deli, butcher, seafood)
  • Simplex 4904-9174 (remote strobe; located in bathrooms)
  • Wheelock MT-24-WM (weatherproof Wheelock MT- used in loading dock, dairy section, and back rooms)
  • SpectrAlert Classic (located in parking deck)

Detectors:

  • FCI ASD-PL2s (fire recall detectors for parking deck)
  • Simplex 4908-9701 (detectors used in store)

Fire Alarms at the BJ’s Supermarket in Kaplan Square Outlets:

All Devices are original to when the store was built in 1999-2000.
Simplex 4903-9236 Horn/Strobes. These have the 1999 modified Simplex logo.
Simplex 4903-9238 Horn/Strobes. These have the 1999 modified Simplex logo.
Simplex 4904-9137 Strobes (Bathrooms). These have the 1999 modified Simplex logo.
Simplex 4904-9136 Strobes (Around Store). These have the 1999 modified Simplex logo.
System Sensor P2W/P2WH (General Alarm, these are not original!). These were mounted higher up than the 4903s and are not connected to the Simplex 4005 panel. There’s not as many devices on that General Alarm Circuit with the SpectrAlert Advances, so the installers have equipped high candela variants for many areas. The main alarms you would hear are the 4903s. The SpectrAlert Advances still have the ‘FIRE’ marking, but they won’t sound when the Simplex 4903s sound)

The 4903s have a colored shape on the strobe reflector to indicate what candela the alarm is. In this case, you’ll either see a Green Asterisk or an Orange Triangle on the strobe reflector to indicate whether the device is 15CD or if it is 110CD. All of them are 15 and 110CD models respectively. The SpectrAlert Advances are set on as low as 15 and as high as 185CD due to less devices being on the circuit. The 4903s are mounted throughout the store at ADA height, but the Advances are only installed in the main areas, with half of them being mounted higher than they should. There are red beacons outside to indicate if the fire alarms are going off as well as one Wheelock RSSWP-24MCWH, replacing a Wheelock WM3T with a dead strobe.

All the pulls are Simplex 2099-9756 Dual Action T-Bars and the Panel is a Simplex 4005.

The 4903-9146 is actually not a Horn Strobe, it’s a Speaker Strobe. Is there any possibility that it was either a Simplex 4903-9236, 9237 or 9238 depending on the candela? As a matter of fact I’ve been inside a real Stop & Shop that had 4903-9236, 9237 and 9238 Horn Strobes!

It would have been a -9236 (that was the first one I saw on Google when looking for devices without looking further)

The system here is a Conventional with Simplex 2099-9756 Dual Action T-Bars installed during a multitude of years due to different Simplex logos. The alarms play a Code 3 tone when the system activates with no message. All speaker strobes are on different wattage settings adjusted accordingly throughout different rooms

Notes on the System:

The Simplex 4903-9146s are located in smaller offices, by stairwells, nurses office and smaller classrooms and hallways.
The Simplex 4903-9142s are located in hallways and classrooms.
The Simplex 4903-9144s are located in the lobby, by main stairway, cafeteria, science classrooms, larger department offices, gymnasiums (including cages), yoga room, weight room, music classrooms/hallway, multi purpose room, auditorium, library and by stairwells of long hallways with no walls blocking it
The Simplex 4903-9150/9148/9149 speaker strobes all replaced their older 4903-9146/9142/9144 counterparts respectively if it didn’t work correctly.
The Simplex 4903-9356 is located in an office
The Simplex 4903-9357 speaker strobes were located in various classrooms and offices. The ones with no TrueAlert marking are from 2000. The others are from 2003 and 2005-2009.
The Simplex 4903-9358 speaker strobes were in the cafeteria, weight room, music classroom, department office, a computer classroom in basement, art rooms, auditorium and FACP room. The ones with no TrueAlert marking are mostly from 2000, with the ones in the Science Laboratory classroom from 2001. The ones with TrueAlert marking are from 2003 as well as 2005-2009.
The Simplex 4906-9151 Speaker/Strobes were installed in the newer renovated wing.
The Simplex 4906-9154 Speaker/Strobes were installed in the newer renovated wing as well as newer spaces in the older part of the building.
The Simplex 4904-9137 Strobes were installed in almost all of the bathrooms.
The Simplex 4904-9135 Strobes were installed in 4 additional sets of Boys and Girls bathrooms and smaller classrooms.
A Simplex 4904-9136 takes place in the Locker room.
3 Additional Simplex 4904-9168 QuickAlert strobes take place in the a Nurses Office Bathroom as well as the Boys and Girls bathrooms on the Lower Level from 1999 with the weird bumps on the grill.
There’s some Simplex TrueAlert 4904-9168/4904-9169 strobes in offices.
There’s a Simplex QuickAlert 4904-9170 strobe in the panel room from 2000.
There’s a Simplex 4904-9174 strobe in an office in the library replacing a Simplex 4904-9135. Another one takes place in a bathroom where the 4904-9135 had a strobe that was falling off the base making it hazardous.
There’s some Simplex 4904-9176 strobes in a single person restroom replacing a dead 4904-9137, 3 smaller music classrooms replacing 4904-9137s one that was not on the wall and the other 2 didn’t work.

This actually looks relatively similar to my old High School as a fact! They have the EST Genesis Speaker Strobes, while this one has Simplex 4903 Speaker Strobes all from 1999. My old High School had Otis Elevators, but this one has Dover Impulse Elevators! The restrooms had Kohler Freshman and Kingston fixtures at my old High School, so does this one.

There’s another building by the football field that has Gentex Commanders with bathrooms outside.

Simplex QuickAlert 4903-9419 Horn/Strobes
Simplex QuickAlert 4904-9332 Strobes

System is a Simplex 4020. Signals are set to Code 3 and are all SmartSync. There’s no 15CD units installed in this building. The pulls are Simplex 4099-9003 and Smokes are 4098-9714/9792. As a matter of fact, all devices in the lobby, weight room and gymnasium are 110CD, and the others are 75CD. These alarms are in very good shape even as original installs.

Barkley Academic Building (2003):

Simplex 4904-9184 Ceiling Strobes
Simplex 4904-9185 Ceiling Strobes
Simplex TrueAlert 4901-9820 Horns

The whole system is set on SmartSync. Some of the devices have gotten replaced with Multi Candela SmartSync TrueAlerts, but most still work perfectly fine. The Panel is a Simplex 4010 Red Cabinet and the pulls and smokes are the same 4099-9003s and 4098-9714/9792s. The Horn/Strobes in the Hallways are 15CD, the ones in the classrooms are 75CD and the ones in the large spaces are 110CD. The remote strobes in more than 1 person restrooms and some classrooms are 75CD, the ones in single person restrooms and smaller classrooms are 15CD and the ones in larger classrooms where they didn’t want a loud horn are 110CD. Most of the ceiling strobes are 110CD, the ones in less big spaces are 30CD and the ones in both lower ceilings and smaller rooms are 15CD. Some of the ceiling strobes are mounted on adapter plates with 4901-9820 Horns! This is a very nice building, quite big, AC and all that good stuff.

Simplex QuickAlert 4904-9332 Strobes (2000, 75CD)
Simplex QuickAlert 4904-9333 Strobes (2000, 110CD)

All strobes are synchronized and all alarms are mounted on skirts. Panel is a Simplex 4100 voice-evacuation system installed in 2000 and pulls are 4099-9003 dual action addressable T-Bars. The smokes are the 4098-9714/9792s again. The funny thing here is the tone is supposedly a siren tone, but it’s coded to Code 3, interestingly! The voice message is a more effective male message that plays for 3 times in a row. “Attention! May I have your attention please? There has been a fire emergency reported in the building. Please proceed calmly to the nearest exit and evacuate the building immediately. Do not use the elevators! I repeat do not use the elevators!” Candela chart: Most speaker strobes provide 75CD and 110CD outputs. Additional 15CD speaker strobes are installed in smaller hallways and rooms. Most remote strobes are 15CD, with additional 75CD models being installed inside rooms and additional 110CD units for spaces where a strobe needs to be more accessible throughout a certain area. Most of the academic supports on campus are through this library. People need to end up coming here a lot during day and night, so there are very long hours of operation. There’s also a coffee shop/snack bar on the ground floor. Boy they have good coffee and fruit drinks down there! It’s even better than Starbucks! Their sandwiches and cake pops are better too, because the workers there like to put it the way other people like it best. There’s different breads, eggs, cheeses, meats (plant based option as well). Many vegetables (including salads) and proteins there to make your meal even healthier. There are many vending machines throughout though, too. An Ice Cream Bar Also Takes place in the library.

These Simplex QuickAlerts are from 1999-2000! Not original to the building as the building is old from 1960. The bathrooms have some of their original vintage “Standard” fixtures. The panel in here is yet another Simplex 4020.

System Sensor/Fire Lite Systems:

Space Age V33 120CD strobes
Space Age VA3 15, 15/75, 30, 75 and 110CD strobes
System Sensor S2415, 1575, 30, 75 and 110 1st Generation Strobes. This system is actually conventional. This one is more interesting with the 1st Generation Classics plus there’s Space Age Fire Alarms on this system!

Parking Garage:

System Sensor SP1R24110ADA Speaker Strobes from 1997. The strobes are not synchronized. These actually play a Simplex 4100 voice evacuation message, because the installers thought it was going to fool some people.

These devices replaced Simplex SmartSync QuickAlert 4903-9417, 9418 and 9419 Horn Strobes, Simplex 4904-9331, 9332 and 9333 Strobes and Simplex 4904-9327 SmartSync Ceiling Strobes all from 1999 on a Simplex 4020. The system was upgraded in 2020, during COVID. These Gentex Commander 2s, 3s and 4s are still likable though because they’re multi tone and multi candela and have a nice 4 wire metal mounting bracket. At least the Simplex QuickAlerts didn’t get replaced with System Sensor L-Series.

There’s also 3 Simplex 4903-9419s that are TrueAlerts with the TrueAlert marking on the left. Most don’t and most are from 2000, but however there are some Simplex QuickAlerts are from 1999 due to the smaller hole for the horn; mostly the Simplex 4903-9417s look like that. Most Signals on the system are the QuickAlerts. There’s many stores that have TrueAlerts. Some still have QuickAlerts. There are however some QuickAlert remote strobes of all 3 models with the bumps on the grille, mostly the 4904-9333s. There’s a smaller hallway with a 4904-9331 like that and a very early 4903-9419 with a smaller hole and colored shape on the strobe reflector to indicate 110CD. There’s also some EST Genesis Fixed 30 Candela White Horn Strobes with no Fire marking here as well. There’s QuickAlerts installed basically everywhere! One 4903-9419 QuickAlert has a cover plate that has turned pink as it was installed since 2000. One 4903-9419 QuickAlert from 1999 is also mounted very low, and it should be mounted higher. This mall is right near the Cool Awesome Airport with the mixed Simplex speaker strobes, which is very cool!

This mall has a Very Similar structure to the International Plaza in Tampa, FL. The only difference is that the mall has Simplex and EST Fire Alarms on a Simplex system (Mostly Simplex) instead of System Sensor and Wheelock Fire Alarms on a Honeywell system (Mostly System Sensor). There are signs of no smoking or vaping in the mall. Some people just do it anyway. You are going to make those Simplex QuickAlerts angry lmao! One of the 4903-9419 QuickAlerts from 2000 also has a crack in the cover plate. There’s been a few false alarms at the this mall last year and a little this year. The mall is never on Fire, always a false alarm when the QuickAlerts go off. They sound very erratic. There was a boy that was very sensitive to the alarm due to his autism, and he actually got a migraine and his heart was pounding very hard. This happened on October 7, 2023 during a false fire alarm. Sometimes the Fire Alarms went off from people smoking weed or marijuana as well as vaping, causing the heat alarms to trigger the fire alarms to go off. Because as smoke catches that Addressable 4098 TrueAlarm heat/smoke detector, the fire alarms will go off and it will be very loud. The people who work at the Robinson mall want to make it a rule that there’s no smoking allowed at the mall because then the fire alarm is more likely to go off and also, think about the people around you. The QuickAlerts/TrueAlerts are very loud and they don’t mess with you! The alarm went off twice that day as someone kept on pulling the fire alarm. A Fire Alarm enthusiast who was here always wanted these QuickAlerts to go off for some reason.

The parking garage of this mall also has Simplex QuickAlerts. Mostly the QuickAlerts and TrueAlerts on the wall are mounted on wooden walls, just so that they won’t collect as much paint and/or dust. Some QuickAlerts have those things as well as faded ‘FIRE’ lettering. Most QuickAlerts in this mall have strobes that are rated at 110CD

Off topic: The mall also has a very nice Montgomery glass elevator where you can see a pond on the lower level.

There’s also some Simplex Fire Alarms on this system! 2901-9838s, 4901-9822s, synchronized 4903s/4904s from 1997-2000 and 4 Wire TrueAlerts+QuickAlerts from 2000 with Strobes on Synchronized! All alarms are coded by the panel to Code 3. I love this 100% synchronized ADA Code 3 Wheelock/Simplex System! The panel is a Simplex 4006 with Wheelock sync! Pulls are all Simplex. No System Sensor or Gentex Fire Alarms on this system, Wheelock only. Apparently the installers who installed this system really love Wheelock Fire Alarms more than anything else, so they just kept it at that 100% Wheelock theme. It’s actually an amazing system! The strobes actually have audible silence and all flash in sync! This type of Wheelock syncing protocol only syncs the strobes and not the horns. There’s also an Addressable Simplex 4010 System tied in with the 4006 with Simplex QuickAlert/TrueAlert 4903-9417, 4903-9418 and 4903-9419 Horn Strobes and 4904-9331, 4904-9332 and 4904-9333 Remote Strobes from 1999-2003. Simplex 4906-9127 and 4906-9101 replacements take place. There are also some Wheelock NS and Gentex Commander 2/3/4 Horn Strobes as well as some Wheelock MT-24-SI-CFR Ceiling 75CD Horn Strobes. There’s also a brand new big amazing ice cream factory that has Simplex 4906-9127, 4906-9128, 4906-9139, 4906-9140 and 4906-9101 devices all with a blue circuit board. The wall mount devices have 2 different Simplex logos despite being the same model number and all have a blue circuit board. Conventional pull stations are Simplex Various Simplex 2099 T-Bars and Addressable pull stations are Simplex Various 4099 T-Bars. The alarms are incredibly loud; in fact most are even set on the highest volume setting. The mechanical horns are the loudest because of their vibrations and harmony, plus the Simplex 4903 Synchronized Electromechanical Horn strobes are the newer versions with a colored shape on the strobe reflector and has a louder electromechanical horn.

I’d go with 49SVC-APPLC and 4903-9149 speaker/strobes playing a continuous 200 Hz mechanical horn (Gentex GMS/GMH) sound in hallways and larger rooms, and 4904-9175 remote strobes in bathrooms and smaller rooms. This may be limited to older buildings if they’re mandating code 3 now.

Don’t know much about panels or pull stations; are there controllers that allow playing of a custom audio file or something?

Fire Alarms in a BJ’s Supermarket in Streughsbergh built in 2000-2001 (A more German neighborhood in a part of the town):

Simplex QuickAlert 4903-9419 Horn Strobes (110CD, in most areas)

Simplex QuickAlert 4903-9418 Horn Strobes (In Deli, Bakery, Seafood/Poultry Section as well as upstairs, these ones are 75CD)

Simplex QuickAlert 4904-9333 Strobes (110CD in general open areas of the store, 2nd and 3rd Generation)

Simplex QuickAlert 4904-9332 Strobes (In bathrooms, 75CD)

Simplex TrueAlert 4906-9127 Replacement Horn Strobes (All set on 110CD to replace 4903-9419s)

There’s also some Simplex 4906-9128 Ceiling Mounted TrueAlert Horn Strobes.

Horn strobes are synchronized in this BJs, temporal coding and nice bright 75 and 110CD strobes. Most of the QuickAlerts are 2nd Generation, which means it was made sometime between the 1st and 25th weeks of 2000 (this applies to all 4 fixed 75 and 110CD units), some are 3rd Generation, from the 26th to 43rd weeks of 2000 (This applies only to some of the 110CD units because they changed the font of the FIRE lettering and Simplex logo). There’s one First Generation TrueAlert made on the 49th week of 2000, and that would be one of the Simplex 4903-9419s, and this is simply due to the fact that that Simplex 4903-9419 has a different strobe reflector from all the rest of the 4903-9419s, with the 2 prongs sticking out on either side of the strobe reflector, making it more effective. The rest of the 4903-9419s don’t have those prongs sticking out on that strobe reflector. The strobe light is still very bright which is good because these are QuickAlert 110CD Horn Strobes, but with the 2 additional prongs added, the strobe light is even more bright because the strobe has something to catch onto, which directs the light even better throughout the space. Either way the strobes will still be blinding since they are either 75CD and 110CD regardless of what kind of strobe reflector they use. Plus these are large open areas, which is why the brighter strobe is necessary. These are all mounted at ADA height, which means not too low or not too high, some may be mounted a little lower than others though. The interesting thing is some of the Simplex 4903-9419s and 4904-9333s (most likely in some of the aisles) have cages over them even over 4905-9937 skirts, giving them a spicy, but professional look. In a way that actually protects the alarms from being destroyed, especially if you have to stock items on high shelves that could potentially fall on top of the fire alarms if not done correctly. None of the other BJ’s with the Simplex Fire Alarm Signals have cages over the alarms, just this one. Two of the BJ’s that I have made up have Simplex 4903s (One has mostly Electromechanical, the other is Electronic, mostly 110CD for both), but the others either have Fixed Candela SmartSync TrueAlerts or QuickAlerts like this one. The horn strobes here are impressively loud!

I can picture myself finding Simplex fire alarms in a BJs! Unless if they didn’t have System Sensor/Honeywell Fire Alarms all the time as Simplex isn’t owned by Honeywell.

I think that is possible
