The ACEND series has now been added to the Siemens website. This page for addressable notification appliances exists, but addressable notification appliances have not been released yet.
Great find! If you expand the subcategories on the left you get the accessories (cover plates, etc.), so the addressable version will look the same on the outside.
Looking through the datasheets, it appears they are unable to do T3/T4 switching that the Wheelock rebrands could do depending on whether the sync signal had the horns silenced or not. Whether this is an oversight or more Wheelock patent bullcrapery, I am unsure. I hope it is just an oversight on the preliminary datasheets, as this feels like a similar situation to the launch of System Sensor’s LED L-Series
I think it might be related to Simplex’s patents for addressable notification, as there is at least one patent for tone selection via electronic signals, or because the addressable ACEND devices will have this capability. I don’t think Wheelock has filed any patents for their sync protocol since 2008, since the T3/T4 on horns was controlled by the audible silence state. I also suspect that the reason Wheelock has not introduced an Eluxa version of the AMT is because they are waiting to release an addressable version of the ELMT with this functionality over 2 wires.
How could Wheelock make an addressable device if they don’t make the panels?
This also brings up the “issue” with addressable notification becoming the norm in the future. What will brands like Wheelock and Gentex do? They will need to partner up with makers of panels. I think that, for that very reason, Wheelock may actually be taking at least some part in the manufacturing of these new devices.
Eaton does make an addressable power supply that can communicate with SUB-NAC modules, so it is possible that a new version of this power supply will have a larger address range to be able to directly communicate with each notification appliance.
I still find it weird, if they were made to be replacements, why would they drop a feature a previous generation of alarms had? Granted, they were made by Wheelock, but they still used the Siemens sync protocol. I guess we’ll see when it releases
I quite like the look of these. The efficiency gains are impressive, too – especially over the Eluxas!
That page no longer exists. This is the new parent category. Indoor MNS also appears to have been removed from the website.
By “Code 4 Tone” do you mean Temporal 4? I’d love it if they have that feature in an event of CO situations.
More than likely that’s what they mean, though I believe “temporal 4” is the official name of that pattern.
Seems very european. The devices seem like they are based of FDS series here in europe. the grille and the plastic texture match the new line and my findings
Siemens has now merged the SL2 chimes/multitones and SET speakers into the ACEND series, and there is a new category for “Outdoor and Special Application Fire” that is empty at this time. There do not seem to be any outdoor LED strobes sold by Siemens at this time.
I find it incredibly odd that they would do that with the multi tone devices when the ACEND horn/strobes will supposedly already be multi tone.
The ACEND horn strobes are 2-wire, but the Eluxa multitone strobes are 4-wire.
At least they are keeping around an option for 4-wire I guess.
