Weather Woes Vol. 3

A total of about 10" from this last one. I’m getting tired of all this, if we get too much more snow, somebody’s gonna get hurt!

In the mean time, the weather outlook for Southeast Michigan is looking grim; we are likely to be hit with a major snow system Tuesday night into Wednesday. This could bring close to double-digit snowfall totals in some areas. In addition, old man winter won’t be helping the situation; there could be single-digit temperatures Wednesday and wind gusts up to 25 MPH.

I should just hope now, since weather can only be predicted, that there is a change as this potential monster of a storm system gets closer…

Yeah, we may get the same storm here. Its a double edge sword: we have already had way too much snow, but its good for cancelling college courses that don’t need to be made up!.

If school is cancelled this Wednesday, I will only have class on Monday and Thursday!

Very potent storm coming up! It’ll start Tuesday afternoon and continue into Thursday morning. The big wild card with this storm is the fact that warming may mix in aloft, while surfact temps remain below freezing, meaning sleet and freezing rain may mix in, especially in the New England area. Right now models are suggesting that this could be another major storm, with 6"-12" for my area and New England may get close to 2’. IDK if the models already take the mixing into consideration but nonetheless, this won’t be a small storm…

Well, that depends on what your area is. 2’ sounds like just another day in the life for us here in New England…although that doesn’t mean that we’re happy about it. It this stage in the game, too much freezing rain or even plain rain would be very detrimental. Tomorrow I’ll have to work at cleaning some snow off of the roof.

The local news guys are thinking we may get about anywhere as low as 15" to about as much as 24" (two feet). Its just such a pain in the ass, we are almost out of places to put it all. The snow banks are so large that driving is becoming very dangerous in some intersections. We’re already at about 60" for total since Christmas and by the end of the winter we’ll have to see if we make it to the 100" mark. Can you say FLOODING in the spring?

Hopefully it’ll be a gradual melt…

Yes, that would be ideal. Although if it doesn’t melt fast enough, we may have it until June!

I’ve already missed a ton of classes due to the snow. I started the semester with an Algebra class on Wednesdays, but I switched over to a different math course a few days later. Last Wed. was supposed to be my first time in that new class, but it was cancelled. It looks like this weeks class will be cancelled as well. This has to be a new record for the latest time I’ve ever started a class!

The situation as of early Monday is not looking pretty; about 10-15" of snow are possible, in addition to the low wind chill values Tuesday evening and blowing snow drafts Wednesday. I think I could be looking at a snow day for the future…

Were you born here in the states or are you from another country?

I was born right here in Michigan, although my father, my grandparents, and my great aunt are from Malta, a very small country (island) off the southern coast of Italy.

Weather-wise, parts of southern lower Michigan have been issued a Winter Storm Warning, while the rest of the metro area is under a Winter Storm Watch…

NWS is forecasting 15"-30" (w/ my location getting 22"), Local station forecasting 13"-20", with my area getting a more higher total due to expected mixing towards the south. Through tomorrow, we’re only expected to get 3"-6", while down south 5"-9", but after that is when the big one hits, which will dump more than a foot everywhere. This is going to be a big storm like we haven’t had in quite a while.

After that, there’s another storm watch for Saturday, and again for Monday…

Ahhh!!! This is really going to test the patience of the average Joe around here. I just got finished cleaning snow off the roof of the garage and shed. We’re expecting about 4-8" for tomorrow and close to 2 feet on Wednesday. Like I’ve said, this spring is going to be really interesting…

I’ve been watching the amounts go up over the last few hours. Looks like 2 feet could easily happen around here. This is the most snow I’ve seen since the '95/'96 winter.

This is as much as I’ve seen since the Valentine’s Day Nor’Easter back in 2007. I know you guys in New England didn’t get much, but http://www.cbs6albany.com/sections/weather/historical/paststorms/2007/Feb14_07_Noreaster/images/WxNet_SnowMap.jpg we took a beating here in NYS.

Yeah, I vaguely remember snow on that day (I think school was cancelled), but it wasn’t as bad for us. My college had to close one of the buildings on campus today because they found a dangerous flaw in the roof while they were cleaning the snow off. Its a fairly new building too.

The National Weather Service now has a Blizzard Warning going for us tonight at 7pm, along with 40mph wind gusts, in addition to about 10-15" of snow forecast for our area. Hopefully, two snow shovels and a snowblower will be good enough to battle this blizzard…

It was snowing for most of the day yesterday and there’s barely any snow on the ground, but they still called a snow day, probably because the high today is supposed to be -1.

I’ve watched a video on the NWS page for SE Michigan, and it looks like our area is getting between 9-9.5" of snow. The district has also canceled most after-school activities and Community Education classes.
