That is REALLY dependent on how the low tracks up the coast. Right now it looks like it will take a more in-land track, which means the heaviest of rains will hit central and western NY and those of us to the east will again be dealing with humid air and showers and downpours not amounting to as much as central and western NY. If it tracks closer to the coast, then we’ll be in for some huge rainfall amounts, and yes, it is needed - we are approximately 7" below normal. There’s actually reports from central NY that more than 2" of rain has fallen, but here at my house, we had .28" yesterday, and only .04" today. So I do hope the low hugs the coast more to give those who need the rain who haven’t gotten it a soaking.
Meanwhile, I HATE this humidity! I can’t wait for it to go away! 8)
I’ve been having trouble doing anything, but because I’ve been sick the last couple of days. The humidity helps a little, dry air would just make my throat hurt even worse.
The warm front JUST came through my area, as the winds are whipping as we speak. Nothing but wind, downpours, and the threat of flooding for the next 18 or so hours…
3.72" of rain! That’s how much fell in the past 36 hours, most of which fell overnight last night. Lots of streets and basements under water still, even boats broke free from their docks leading to rescue workers rounding them all up. Some areas recieved as much as 7"-8"! Had we not had a rainfall deficit of more than 7", everyone says the flooding could have reached epic levels. But the rain waters have ceased and now we have the next four days to dry out.
Around here, we have just been hit by a cold front and its been giving us a chilly 60 degrese (yes, Im a Texan, this is cold to us) in the morning and warming back up to 90 around 3 PM. But, it hasnt really rained alot even though we just had a low pressure system move overhead last week. I heard however that there will be alot of rain and possably tornados coming soon, but then again, we never get torandos down here, only hurricanes and they are a lot more fun…
60 degrees, cold? Haha, I know what you mean…sort of. It’s been so warm ever since last April that today’s high of about 63 is feely really cold. It was in the 70s and muggy the last few days thanks to T.S. Nicole and we got some much needed rain. Prior to this batch of rain, the last time we had any consistant rainfall was back in June!
We need rain here. We haven’t had too much rain recently. The temps are in the mid 80s but there is not humidity, so it feels great… now for the rains to come.
We have finally had our share of much needed rain. I was up in Maine today and we had an unexpected rain shower. It was sunny and then a clump of dark clouds came through and we had a downpour for a short time. What was funny was that it was still sunny as it was pouring!
We have finally been dealing with cold air for almost three weeks. We have had mild afternoons but cold mornings and evenings. The mornings have brought the use of heaters at school again, which for us, it means at least one false alarm–which we have already had.
And another front coming through will bring another surge of cold air down here. I am happy!
It was very mild yesterday, about 60 degrees. The normal high for this time is about 46. It’s supposed to turn cold again next week and for Thanksgiving. We may even get snow and ice around the Holiday.
I personally think that New England weather is “bipolar”, especially in the Fall and Spring. It can easily go from being hotter than normal for one week, to colder than normal for the next one.
We had TORNADOES today! Well, they were several miles to my south, but still, tornadoes in upstate NY in mid-November is pretty rare, especially when they occur at 5:18 AM! And it was an EF1! No one injured or killed, thank god considering most people were still asleep at that time, but lots of trees were uprooted and came crashing down into homes. What likely helped in that situation was the fact that the ground was so saturated so the trees were uprooted like they were nothing.
Wow, I had heard that there may have been a tornado in Baltimore, but I was unaware of the situation in NY. I did however notice the squall line on the radar last night to the south of Albany. We got nothing but rain around here, not one rumble of thunder at all.
It’s so ironic, three tornado watches this past summer and nothing happened each time. This time, there is no watch, and we get an EF1. And just an FYI, I’ve been told there was a severe t-storm warning in effect at the time, but no tornado warning was ever issued.
