Weather Woes Vol. 3

My dad said there were no warnings, but I was informed earlier this evening by a local meteorologist that there was one. Unfortunately I was one of the people who slept through it, so I don’t have a say in this…

Well, maybe it was better to sleep through it rather than have to be awake to worry about it.

I LOVE waking up in the middle of a thunder storm. 1) I can unplug all my crap lol. 2) I just love to watch the sky light up storms are so exciting!

I like night time t-storms too, just not waking up to a tornadic storm. BTW Jake, unfortunately for you most storms fart-out by the time they reach you by the ocean. :stuck_out_tongue:

We have an inland house out of state and we see some AMAZING storms there. But we do have our share of nice storms here on the coast :frowning: but you are right for the most part they are all worn out haha.

A lot of the time they start to wear out when they arrive here. The only place to see action is the western part of the state.

It’s because of the upslope of the mountains (Berkshires) that force the “warm” air to rise, creating instability and all the ingredients were there to create a brief EF1 twister. As you get on the other side of the mountains, the air sinks, and it’s impossible to have incliment weather due to sinking air.

^Yeah, I remember learning about that, I was very disappointed when I learned that was why. I live east of the mountainous terrain, so the uplift of warm is is significantly cut off by the storms get here. Unless of course they move fast enough or we get the occasional storms to “pop-up” here. We had a storm devolope about 15 miles to the west this past July and it quickly became a tornadic supercell.

Well…after having hardly any snow so far, the jackpot is on the way! It has only snowed twice: Last Monday (12/20) and Wednesday (12/22). Both times only accumulated to about 1-2 inches. Tonight is the payoff for our waiting, a nice blizzard with about 2 feet of snow expected!

We’re forecasted to get 8"-12". Of course they also said that it’d start snowing between 10 and 2, and as of now, it STILL has yet to start snowing (it is VERY windy though).

Its already started snowing here. They are still predicting about 18-24 inches here. I think the last time we had an official blizzard was in 1995.

Last year I was stuck in Snowmageddeon, so this feels familiar. Ironically, Pittsburgh hasn’t gotten much snow this year.

We started out the morning with patches of snow and grass, so as you can imagine, we really haven’t had much either. This is going to be good though. The snow is already blowing around really good and the visibility sucks!

What a mess…

Especially along the coast. We had less snow than predicted, 12 inches vs. the 18+ expected.

We also got downgraded last night from 8"-12" to 4"-8". As for how much we got, the drifts are making it nearly impossible to tell. My front yard measured 6" but my backyard (which is sort of a wind tunnel as there’s not as much open space) measured between 7"-8". I’m just going with the average and saying 7".

My area got hit pretty hard. We got about a foot of snow. The wind was blowing like crazy last night and a few trees lost big branches.

We got about a foot. The worst part is the wind.

The wind just started to calm down a few hours ago. We have huge “dunes” around here due to the open fields. Some of them are over 6 feet tall!

The NWS is predicting thunderstorms throughout the day in our area today, and there is already a good line rolling through mid-Michigan, although this system is not severe.
